Aside from the single barrel program, it has felt a bit quite from the team at Four Gate. We saw a few releases from them last year with Kelvin Collaboration VI and Triple Oak, and the year before with their popular Kelvin Sixty. Today we are back with Batch 30: The Dearborn Pirates - an 8-year Indiana High Rye Bourbon finished in Añejo Spicy Dark Rum casks. The team mentioned this has been a big hit at all of their tastings over the past couple months, and we're excited to be the first retailer to bring it to you all.
I highly recommend giving this 5-10 minutes in the glass as both the aroma and the palate will reward you.
The nose starts bright and spiced with citrus oil, white pepper, and gentle oak, but the longer it’s open it still ends on soft maple syrup and brown sugar, and even longer of rich, seasoned oak.
The palate is plush for 105 proof, starting with soft ginger, clove, and lemon oil but quickly opening to toasted vanilla, and creamy red fruits.
The finish is long and silky, giving slightly spiced oak, brown sugar, and candied orange peel.
Four Gate Whiskey Company numbered batches are the very best barrels of whiskey available on the market brought to you from heritage distilleries in Kentucky and Indiana. All of their release are a minimum of 7 years old and bottled at barrel proof and always non-chill filtered.
