Bull Run was one of my earliest introductions (back in 2018!) to extended finishes when Seelbach’s was getting started. Some of those early barrels were immediate sellouts, and over the years we’ve selected everything from 13-year and 15-year straight bourbons to older American Whiskey and some particularly memorable finished releases.

A few of our favorites were back in 2024 with their 8-year and 10-year Cognac Finished Bourbons, and today we’re finally getting back to that profile.

This newest barrel is an 11-year-old bourbon finished in Cognac casks for 24 months, bringing together the kind of mature, well-aged Indiana bourbon we’ve always loved from Bull Run with the added fruit, richness, and texture that made those earlier Cognac barrels stand out so much.

While it’s been over a year since our last release with them, it’s great to see Bull Run continues to put out mature whiskey, interesting finishes, and some of the better values we see at these age statements.

The nose is packed with brown sugar, golden raisins, dates, and mulled wine. Bright, fruity, and rounded sweetness. Revisiting this nose, I remember exactly why we selected this barrel. The bourbon perfectly integrates with the Cognac finish. It amplifies the dried fruit and sweetness I love while rounding out and balancing the oak and spice.

The palate is stewed peach and heavy whipping cream. A pop of white pepper and roasted almonds on the mid-palate. This leads to a lingering spice on the finish of cardamom and toasted coconut. The balance and structure of this whiskey are so well done.
