At this point, we know what to expect when we taste through barrels at Nashville Barrel Co: a lot of strong considerations and a few barrels we don’t want to leave behind. Of the 50+ barrels we tried on this trip, this was one of those must-haves for us. Our third release of NBC barrels for 2026 brings a recently familiar 8-year bourbon out of Lawrenceburg.

With our last Rare Character single barrel and last week’s Shortbarrel releases selling out in PRO, this 8-year Kentucky bourbon comes in at 117.64 proof with a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% barley, and just might be up your alley. If the last few barrels similar to this are any indication, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this one go quickly.

Mature dried oak, sweeter leather, dried black tea, and orange zest lead the nose before transitioning into richer notes of heavy demerara syrup and just a touch of blackberry compote.

The palate is punchy and in your face. It starts with that blackberry compote from the nose but quickly moves into a creamy back and forth of cinnamon, pepper, and cane sugar before throwing a curveball with lemon-lime soda concentrate, toffee, and charred oak.

The finish is rich and spiced, but still keeps giving up sweeter oak notes well into a long finish of dried cherry, cranberry, golden raisin, and mint-kissed blackberry syrup.
