Smokeye Hill Restock 🚨

Smokeye Hill is one of those brands we find ourselves coming back to again and again. Somehow, we also realized we never actually sent an email when their Barrel Proof Rye first launched, which feels like an oversight worth fixing.
 
Smokeye Hill Barrel Proof Rye is built on a proprietary four-grain mash bill of rye, heirloom blue corn, yellow corn, and malted barley. It’s distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, then barreled and matured in Colorado Springs at 6,100 feet. Aging takes place in 30-gallon American white oak casks, charred at levels 2, 3, and 4, adding layers of depth, complexity, and character along the way.

Their Barrel Proof Rye landed at #8 on my Ryes of the Year list for 2025, while the Barrel Proof Bourbon earned an honorable mention on my Top Less Allocated Whiskeys of 2024. Smokeye Hill Blue Corn Straight Bourbon 93 proof
 
Sweet vanilla, candied spices, and a touch floral.
 
The palate is dangerously easy to drink - vanilla cream, caramel, subtle dark chocolate, charred oak, and again these candied pepper and citrus notes.  A pinch of berry in there but more of a complimenting flavor. 
 
The finish is all honey and nougat, soft and creamy with a silky vanilla trailing.

Smokeye Hill Blue Corn Barrel Proof Bourbon 
 
Nose is heavy vanilla custard, blueberry pie, dried tobacco leaf, and new leather - buttery and sweet yet lingering with aromatics. 
 
The palate is rich and mature, giving thick classic bourbon vanilla sweetness up front, chewy brown sugar sweetness in the mid palate, and continuing with rich tobacco, leather, and well charred oak. Continued sips do showcase cherry cola and underlying dried fruits, but the focus is more classic bourbon sweetness. 
 
The finish has the spiciness that comes with the proof, but then continues all the vanilla and brown sugar from the palate. 
 
Smokeye Hill Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey
 
Rich butterscotch and warm honey lead the nose, followed by soft baking spice and dried fig.
 
The palate is full-bodied and rounded, opening with layers of honey and caramel before moving into cinnamon baking spice and dried apricot, with sweet vanilla and toasted oak building through the mid-palate and a light touch of pepper for balance.
 
The finish is long and oily, lingering with honeyed oak, warming spice, and a subtle black tea bitterness that keeps the sweetness in check.
