Did you see my mention in Sunday's review email? We're celebrating 7 years at Seelbach's this week. Because of that, I've been digging through some old photos. I pulled the gem below from a picture back in January 2018. Hard to believe it took almost another 6 years for us to bring in our own single barrels from MB Roland. But we have two bangers! We have a 6-year, 1-month, barrel proof, white corn bourbon. And a 6-year 7-month corn whiskey barrel. The corn whiskey was aged in a 25-gallon ex-bourbon barrel. It only produced 77 bottles and won't last long.

MB Roland Distillery started in 2009. It was founded by Paul and Merry Beth (“MB”) Tomaszewski. This makes it Kentucky’s first craft distillery to go completely “grain to glass.” Paul hails from southeastern Louisiana. He came to the area from nearby Ft. Campbell. MB is a local native. A Kentucky craft distillery found a great home on an Amish dairy farm that was for sale. One big plus of this location is that it’s near Christian County Grain, the local grain supplier in Pembroke.

The operation started out with Paul as the one and only full-time distiller in 2009. Since then, their team has grown to over 18 employees. This includes MB, who joined full-time from her previous job. They love what they do, and it shows. This passion shines through in their products, the distillery, and the onsite events. You can taste it in these delicious single barrels.

The nose is beautifully fragrant and desserty. Grilled peaches, pecan pie, date pudding, all with aromatic leather, seasoned oak, vanilla bean, and a touch of fresh rosemary.

The palate is voluptuous. There’s this honey  drizzled peaches and cream right on the front of the palate before gobs of vanilla, layered of custard, chewy date fruitiness, and rich, raw almond lingering.

The finish is hearty and long, continuing with the dates, vanilla, and raw almond from the palate before transitioning to dark chocolate and trailing mature oak and soft linger of cigar smoke.

Juicy and fruity right away on the nose - like slices of freshly baked peach and blackberry cobblers fresh out of the oven, with a dollop of Cool Whip quickly melting over top of the buttery crust. Still, there’s an elegant nip of oak and spice that just fits perfectly in there along with this nutella-like mix of milk chocolate and hazelnut.

The palate is warm cornbread and fresh blackberry compote - dark, dense, and satisfying. The more you sip you get all the elements of a Moon Pie - soft graham cracker and marshmallow covered in chocolate. There’s subtle notes of caramel as well, all dancing around this aromatic oak before ground espresso and hazelnut.

The finish is semi-dry and with aromatic oak before lingering notes of creamy peanut butter and honey, and chai latte.
