Kings County Distillery Single Barrel Bourbon 128.8 proof - Selected by Seelbach's
|Kings County is a brand that seems to have gained a cult following, or at least a continually growing following, and with good reason. Kings County Distillery is New York City’s oldest operating whiskey distillery, the first since Prohibition. Founded in 2010, Kings County uses New York grain and traditional distilling equipment to produce whiskey in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, just steps from the former waterfront distillery district and the legendary site of the 1860s Brooklyn Whiskey Wars. Every drop the distillery sells is made in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Their Barrel Strength offerings are usually filled to the brim with flavor and viscosity, and our selection today is no different. What originally started as a blend of 6-year 15g and 53g barrels from Fall 2016 was re-casked in an ex-bourbon barrel. This barrel was topped off with 8 year bourbon for balance and yield, and we think it's a welcomed marriage.
The nose alone is quite perfumed and delightful. Fig newton, orange and lemon zest, fudge stripe cookies, slightly toasted vanilla, and cooked cherries about to burst from a freshly baked cherry pie.
The palate is rich and coating. Tons of heavy oak and complimenting spices, supported by vanilla coated berries. Big and spicy for sure, and while there’s some dark chocolate, the plethora of fruits keep this one a bit sweeter and cleaner than others I’ve had.
The finish is long, spiced, and plump with syrupy fruits and chocolatey oak.
