K. Luke Barrel Strength Batch 7 Bourbon & Cabernet Reserve Finished Bourbon

The K. Luke hits keep coming and keep coming - we see multiple sell-outs every time we get a batch in, and the buzz just keeps buzzing. Jonathan and Jennifer Maisano are blending some fantastic whiskey, from their barrel strength offerings to their toasted products and now dipping their feet in a wine finished blend. This blend was put into freshly emptied American and French Oak Keenan Reserve Cabernet Barrels and aged over 6 months.
While every batch we've tried to increase for the demand we are seeing for this product, this will be our first time with this cabernet finish. While we hope there are enough bottles to go around, we don't expect it to be around very long.
Batch 7 Barrel Strength just might be the sweetest nose of the previous batches I’ve had. Big honey and date sweetness, dried cranberries and golden raisin, pops of salted melon fruit, toffee, honey dipped apples.
The palate follows similarly to the nose - lots of orchard fruits and honey. There’s still very much a blast of brown sugar, followed by vanilla coated raspberry, blackberry, and melon. Where past batches have had a larger blast of spice, this time it takes a back seat.
Caramel dipped green apples before a touch of oak, but it’s more balanced in the pour than some past blends have been. Very lively, very fresh.

The nose on the Keenan Reserve Cabernet finish is dense, damp and tannic, a bouquet of fruits just ready to melt into the palate. I’m already smelling what I imagine will be viscous vanilla coated caramels and cordial cherry on first taste.
It clings to the sides of the mouth and coats the entire way. Thick vanilla cream, explosive cordial cherry, jammy oak, and a leathery cocoa are the first wave of flavors to pull out. The finishing doesn’t mask itself, drawing out clove and allspice warmth like a mulled wine combined with rich espresso. The finish continues on with sticky caramel and never forgetting those mulling spices. This is definitely a bottle I’d be reaching for all winter long.
