Bhakta Spirits 2013 Cask Strength Bourbon
|
Over the last few years, the former founder of Whistle Pig has been making a splash in Armagnac. That was until today! Raj Bhakta and Bhakta Spirits released their first whiskey. This is a 9-year 5-month bourbon from Indiana. Bhakta Spirits paid homage to the Armagnac releases they started with. This bourbon finished for 2-months in the Armagnac cask used by the BHAKTA 50 Armagnac blends. This release also brings the vintage concept to the bourbon world. These barrels were distilled in 2013. Each bottle denotes the year of distillation on the label.

I've tasted through a lot of the 99/1 corn/malted barley mash bill lately. There's something special in how it marries with a finishing barrel. This gives even more credence to adding the vintage or barrel lots. The bourbon is sweet and viscous. Combining that with the dried fruit from the Armagnac is phenomenal. It's turns this bottles into a buttery apple cobbler!
Tasting Notes: Nose: vanilla, biscuits, and toasted oak. Palate: very spicy; notes of nutmeg and hazelnut Finish: Stewed pears and apples.
