If you've been reading these for a while, you know we've released several A. Altschuler & Co. barrels since the beginning of 2024. Each one tends to hit right in my personal flavor pocket. Their 12-year Straight Bourbon from past years ended up being some of my favorite bourbons over the years, and the 11-year 99/1 from last was another personal favorite coming in 7th in my Top 10 Picks/Single Barrels of 2025. We also began 2026 with a delicious 12-year Mizunara finished rye.

After several months, A. Altschuler & Co. returns with another fantastic release: a rare blend of 11, 19, and 20-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys, meticulously sourced from Kentucky's most prestigious distilleries.

The foundation of this blend is a distinguished 11-year bourbon distilled in Frankfort, KY providing a backbone of deep heritage and unmistakable fruitiness. The final composition - 78% 11-year, 12% 19-year, and 10% 20-year - was refined through countless iterations over several months to showcase the finest qualities of each component and finished in Mizunara oak. Rather than pushing the whiskey into “exotic” territory, the Mizunara acts with restraint, laying in a gentle honeyed sweetness and a subtle note of sun-warmed red and black grape while leaving the bourbon’s core character fully intact. The effect is subtle, but elevates the whole blend and continues to show us why we love these A. Altschuler releases so much.

At an approachable 108 proof, this blend delivers playful fruitiness of all kinds that keep the older notes of leather, tobacco, and oak in check.  Though complex, it remains accessible - a trait we've grown to love from previous Altschuler releases while remaining uniquely its own.

Crafted with patience and blended with passion by our friend James over at The Woodwork Collective, there will only be 237 bottles of this blend available and once they are gone, they are gone.

The nose is engulfing, with fresh cherries, crisp red apple, and layers of antique oak. The woodiness moves in phases, first sweet, next perfumed, and lastly mature and elegant, no doubt an intentional orchestration. Layered in between the phases of oak is classic, easy caramel syrup, flecked with barrel char and a slightly effervescent Sprecher’s grape soda. Despite its 108 proof, the nose is dense and potent.

The palate leads with that rounded grape note, moderately thick and syrupy. It continues with a sweet, sticky touch, like a mix of orange blossom honey and violet jam. There’s also a freshly baked cherry turnover note right in the mid-palate.

The layers of oak from the nose continue to unfold beautifully in the finish, giving an elegant display of its combination of ages, starting sweet and ending semi-drying.

A beautifully done blend, one that comes off refined as opposed to finished.
