Proof: 118.37
Barrel #: 18-0092
Bottle Count: 216 bottles
Age: 4-years 6-months
Mash Bill: 74/21/4 Corn/Rye/Malted Barley
Tasting Notes: A rich honey apple bomb, this pour is full of maple, cinnamon, stewed apples, caramel and honey. Light to moderate oak, with a focus on butterscotch candies, light salted caramel, sweet oak and bright fruits. Mouthfeel is viscous and satisfying, proof is deceptive - it's a sneaky easy drinker for nearly 120pf. Long finish, apple butter, honey and pie crust for days.
About: For the first time, Old Fourth Distillery is releasing their bourbon at cask strength!
Last spring, Blake from Seelbach's and I were in Atlanta. We spent an afternoon with the folks at Old Fourth and picked a set of barrels. Many of you will remember the r/bourbon release, it was the first chapter of the wife is right artwork (my wife selected it alongside myself and blake, it was her first barrel selection). As we were leaving, we kept asking: "is there no way we can bottle at barrel proof?". The answer was a no. They did mention though, that they'd take our request into consideration for future picks. They'd have to totally redesign their labels but...they'd consider it.
Several months later, we got the good word. Old Fourth had agreed that we could have future barrels at cask strength. Blake and I would get to pick individual barrels for our communities, and they'd be the first to release. Oddly enough, my samples showed up just in time this fall for selection: I picked this barrel the night before departing for my honeymoon in Greece. Seelbach's has launched their barrel already, and ours is ready now as well. It's always fun when we can work with a producer to launch something new, and I'm excited for this barrel as well.
