The Special Release line launched in 2018 as a showcase for the blending and finishing skills of Master Blender Nancy Fraley, and every batch has tried a different finish. Past releases have used Pineau des Charentes, cider and malt casks, and, for Batch #4, fresh Calvados casks from the lower Normandy region of France. Ice wine is a new direction for the series. The wine is made from grapes that freeze while still on the vine, so the pressed juice comes out concentrated and very sweet, balanced by high acidity.
