As you may know, one of the whiskey community’s most endearing members, Brett Ferencz – known as ScotchTrooper within whiskey circles – fought pancreatic cancer to a draw earlier this year, and ultimately took the Death Star down with him.
An incredible person, friend, father, colleague, and advocate for whiskey-makers the world over, Brett's impact on the distilling community was unparalleled, as he brought his characteristic wit, wisdom, and amazing palate to everything he did.
During Brett's time with the ASW team in helping open the ASW rickhouse, Brett worked with Master Distiller Justin to create a mash bill reminiscent of the Speyside Single Malts that Brett was so fond of.
Together, they ended up crafting a mash bill of 76% Speyside distilling malt and 24% applewood smoked malt. After taking narrow cuts during distillation and aging the single malt in new oak barrels for the first phase of its maturation, Justin and Brett decided to finish the whiskey in Sherry Barrels, Brett’s favorite.
As a nod to Brett’s love of all things Star Wars, and to the style of Single Malt that resulted from this collaboration, the whiskey was named Space Hide.
Now that Space Hide is matured to perfection and ready to bottle, we will be donating proceeds from this very special barrel, with a goal of raising $20,000 for Brett’s legacy – his 2 daughters.
This commemorative single malt will be bottled at Cask Strength (110 proof), and each bottle comes with a custom sticker emblazoned with Brett’s ScotchTrooper logo.
Total yield: Approximately 225 bottles.
