Tamworth Distilling Royal Gift Straight Rye Whiskey

Story:

From very early on, Tamworth Distilling has sought to put away as many barrels as
possible, all while building a name in experimental and small-batch unique spirits
that transcend classifications. Patience and tradition have their roles in Tamworth,
and we are excited to announce a very small release of a special selection.
We start with 55% organic rye (same organic grain as our Chocorua Rye) and add a
healthy balance of organic flint/dent hybrid corn (same varietal from Old Man of the
Mountain Bourbon) and non- GMO malted barley to convert the carbohydrates to
sugar during the processes. We sculpted a sour mash program to suit our facility's
needs, using a culture from the last batch in the next sequential mash. This process
is important for building flavor and naturally controlling acidity in the wash.
Sweet and mild, with elegant whiffs of hay and apples.

Our flagship Chocorua rye consists of a blend of 2-year-old 100% rye mash barrels.
Being Northerners, we do love our rye! We also love experimentation. This rye
utilizes corn as a sweet and oily backbone to the spicy characteristics of rye grain.
This particular batch is a single barrel expression, aging for longer than 5 years.

Flavor Profile/Tasting Notes:

A snifter of Royal Gift has a big fruitcake aroma. The color is warm amber brown.
Dried cherry and spice on the nose and in the first taste, giving way to a bready
quality in the mid-palate. The fruitiness of the whiskey and wood sugars from the
barrel character is present in a stonefruit sweetness. Left at the higher 100 bottle
proof reinforces a cherry cola characteristic. Adding water will open up the aroma
and sweetness to a graham cracker dram with a candied orange twist.
