Tasting Notes: This whiskey leads on the nose with wood and char notes, a unique and distinct cherry wood element, with subtle floral notes, followed by tons of brown sugar, molasses, dark fruit, vanilla, butterscotch, baking spices leading to clove and hints of citrus. On first taste the wood comes through again in the forefront with some spiced wood, a tannic element, a very full and creamy mouthfeel with lots of cinnamon and baking spices leading the mid-palate, into caramel, leather, tobacco, the baking spices show up in an almost drying way, some cardamom and other complex floral-minty notes, all layered on top of the balanced undercurrent of charred wood, and the creaminess turn into caramel and toffee and a touch of white pepper eludes to the proof but overall the high proof is very well integrated into this textbook bourbon. As with every other element of this bourbon, the wood is the first note of the long finish, it has a dusty tannic drying effect that is complemented by baking spices and heavily toasted coconut. The creaminess turns into an oaky toffee sweetness with caramel and other classic bourbon notes.
