I'm not a huge fan of smoked whiskeys but this one had a beautiful balance. It wasn't over smoked. To reinforce the subtle sweetness of this aged rum, the founders selected several American Oak Kentucky bourbon barrels and rye whiskey barrels to add sweet notes of vanilla, caramel, floral and citrus. To balance these sweet flavors, some of the rum was aged in French Oak port casks and sherry casks. The casks add strong baking spice, hazelnut, and dark fruit notes. After two Kentucky summers in a bourbon warehouse, the founders blended the casks to achieve a well-balanced rum. It highlights the hand-selected barrels, and unique aging characteristics only available in Kentucky.
